Back To The Basics With Selective Fans

back-to-the-basics-with-selective-fans

We are going Back to the Basics with Selective Fans to answer your most frequently asked questions.

We have had quite a few enquiries lately with regards to our ceiling fans so we thought it would be a good idea to go back to basics with our ceiling fan range.

We have had such a cold winter in South Africa, which has sparked up a lot of conversation about The El Niño weather phenomenon – with its cyclical recurrence, it’s not something new, however, we can expect a very hot summer soon.

Here are some of your most frequently asked questions:

1.  Do you have a showroom?

We are a purely online business, however, you can see our fans at Selective Lighting in Port Elizabeth, at Selective Lighting St Francis Bay and Third Generation in George. If you are in Johannesburg, check out Aduna Bistro at Melrose arch where our Levante in Walnut with black rod has been installed.

2. Do you have a recommended installer?

Any qualified electrician is capable of installing our fans. There is a super user-friendly guide that comes with each fan and this will assist your electrician. We do have someone in Cape Town and Port Elizabeth that we have used multiple times that we can recommend, please just drop me an email at [email protected] for their details.

3. How do I know which fan to purchase based on my room size?

Not only do you need to choose a fan based on what aesthetically pleases you, but it also needs to be proportional and functional. If your room is too small, the Levante ceiling fan will look out of place and be too powerful, if your room is too large, you might need more than one Levante fan. We have written a blog on choosing the right fan  for your space which you can view HERE, alternatively, send me a email with your rooms dimensions and I can guide you.

4. Pitched or very high ceilings – what do I do?

A fan can be installed on a pitched or high ceiling.

Flush Mount: Ideal for low ceilings, these fans are installed directly on the ceiling.

Standard Mount: Suitable for most rooms with average ceiling heights.

Angled Mount (with a downrod): Used for sloped or vaulted ceilings. By using a downrod on a really high ceiling it allows you to drop the fan to a suitable height where the airflow can be felt within the immediate vicinity.

We can supply extra length downloads to suit your needs. Not any downrod can be used, as they need to be balanced with precision so its best to contact us to get the best solution. If you want to circulate air in summer and you have a pitched roof or a high ceiling, we highly recommend the extra length rod.

5. What is the most efficient type of ceiling fan?

The Levante and Mistral range are our most energy efficient ceiling fans as they are DC powered. They operate from 4 watts to 27 watts depending on the speed setting.

6. What type of ceiling fan moves the most air?

The Levante range with its 152 cm diameter will move the most air, as the blades are longer. It also has 5 speed settings which can be used to vary the rotation of the blades, thus moving quicker or slower depending on your needs.

7. Do your fans have a remote kit or a wall mount?

Our fans have a remote kit which comes with a mount. This helps when you are lying in bed and also prevents it from getting lost.

8. Are your fans quiet?

Our Levante and Mistral fans have a DC motor, making it much quieter than your standard ceiling fan that comes with an AC motor. You can read about our DC motor fans HERE.

9. Are your fans in stock?

Yes, all fans on the website are fully stocked and ready for purchase.

10. How long until I get them once I place an order?

If you order online, your fan will be couriered to you within 24 hours. If you EFT, once the money reflects, I will courier your fan to you. Courier usually takes between 2 and 7 working days.

Those are our top 10 most frequently asked questions and I hope our back to the basics with Selective Fans guide has added some value!

With love,

Selective fans
